New President for Carl Zeiss Sports Optics

Richard Schmidt succeeds Dr. Manfred Klingel

(PresseBox) (Oberkochen/Germany, Wetzlar/Germany, ) Effective 1 February 2010, Richard Schmidt (47) will become President of Carl Zeiss Sports Optics GmbH. Most recently, he was responsible for Business Development & Operations EMEA as a member of the management for the Consumer Business Unit at Fujitsu Siemens Computers GmbH (Fujitsu Technology Solutions GmbH from April 2009). Before this, he had worked in various management positions at Siemens for 16 years and headed the Sales Strategy und Sales Development area for cordless phones among others. "With his wealth of experience in strategy, marketing and distribution, Richard Schmidt will be able to further develop the consumer business of Carl Zeiss Sports Optics successfully in the future," said Dr. Dieter Kurz, President and CEO of Carl Zeiss AG. Richard Schmidt studied precision engineering in Aalen and business administration in Munich and the USA.

Effective 31 March 2010, Dr. Manfred Klingel will leave his position as President of Carl Zeiss Sports Optics GmbH at his own request and by mutual consent. He will devote his attention to career challenges outside the company in the future. He will be available to the company in an advisory capacity during the transitional period.

Dr. Manfred Klingel joined the Carl Zeiss Group in 2000 and initially held the position of Managing Director at Prontor-Werk Alfred Gauthier GmbH. His most recent position was President of Carl Zeiss Sports Optics GmbH. In both positions he successfully managed the restructuring of the companies in conjunction with consistent promotion of the innovation profile. He made a key contribution to the repositioning of the Sports Optics division and created continuous growth perspectives in an extremely difficult market environment. "We would like to thank Dr. Klingel for his exceptional personal commitment and his achievements in the Carl Zeiss Group," said Kurz.
