Das Immunsystem von Babys und Kleinkindern ist noch nicht vollständig ausgebildet (1). Daher sind sie besonders anfällig für Krankheitserreger. Aus diesem Grund sind die meisten Impfungen von der Ständigen Impfkommission (STIKO) schon in den ersten Lebensmonaten bzw. -jahren empfohlen. Viele Eltern wissen nicht, dass es über den Standardimpfkatalog hinaus zusätzliche Impfungen gibt, mit denen sie ihre Kinder bestmöglich schützen können. Die Meningokokken-C-Impfung beispielsweise, die standardmäßig möglichst früh im zweiten Lebensjahr empfohlen ist, kann nicht vor anderen Meningokokken-Gruppen schützen.
