Demand for development services stable thanks to intact market forces
"The engineering market provides a promising environment, especially so in Germany as a location for development work, because of the numerous innovations and challenges," Chief Executive Officer Dietmar Bichler said with respect to the latest halfyear report. "The variety of technology and models offers potential for customised development services. Development specialists like Bertrandt with know-how covering the whole vehicle are benefiting from such a setting." The trends towards environmentally friendly mobility, safety, comfort and interlinking also remain intact, Bertrandt's CEO added. Revenues rose by 9.8 percent to EUR 375.4 million in the first half of fiscal 2012/2013 (previous year: EUR 342.0 million). Operating profit (EBIT) increased to EUR 37.1 million (previous year: EUR 36.3 million). This includes a development grant awarded outside Germany in the amount of EUR 1.5 million (previous year: EUR 1.3 million). Post-tax profit came to EUR 26.5 million (previous year: EUR 26.0 million). Capital expenditure was at a high level of EUR 14.7 million (EUR 23.9 million one year earlier and EUR 39.5 million on 30 September 2012). With an equity ratio of 59.0 percent (previous year 55.3 percent), Bertrandt is among the best-funded companies in the sector.
"Even though the international automotive industry still presented a mixed picture in the first three months of the 2013 calendar year, we see potential in the future, too, for continuing to successfully position our Company," said Markus Ruf, the Chief Financial Officer of Bertrandt AG. "We continue to resolutely pursue our strategy focused on growth with our customer-oriented market coverage."
Number of employees increased again
The Bertrandt Group enlarged its workforce in the first half of fiscal 2012/2013. The number of employees was up by 905 to 10,260 as at 31 March 2013 (9,355 staff on 31 March 2012).
