The Bertrandt Group's business performance was solid during the first half of its 2009/2010 financial year in a mixed market setting. Satisfactory revenue and earnings performance

In a market setting that has been heavily affected by the financial and economic crisis in recent months, the Bertrandt Group achieved a satisfactory revenue and earnings performance. Bertrandt generated revenues of EUR 194.6 million in the first half of fiscal 2009/2010 (previous year: EUR 209.8 million). In the second quarter alone, revenues came to EUR 104.3 million (previous year: EUR 97.6 million). Compared with the same quarter of the previous year this corresponds to a 6.7 percent increase. Thanks to a research grant of EUR 3.8 million awarded outside Germany, operating profit was up by 2.5 percent in the first half of fiscal 2009/2010 to EUR 19.9 million (previous year: EUR 19.4 million). Including this research grant, Bertrandt generated an operating profit of EUR 12.8 million in the second quarter (Q2 of 2008/2009: EUR 8.4 million). Based on a 23 percent tax rate, the Company realised aftertax earnings of EUR 15.3 million (previous year: EUR 15.3 million). In direct comparison with the second quarter of the previous year, aftertax earnings rose to EUR 10.0 million from EUR 7.1 million.

Provided that there is a sustained recovery in the automotive industry's sales figures, that its spending on R & D remains high and that the manufacturers maintain their outsourcing strategy, CEO Dietmar Bichler sees good opportunity in the current financial year for a gain in both revenues and earnings in all its divisions. "Our objective is to maintain a lasting position on the market and to further strengthen the Company's leading market position with a broadbased business model as well as expertise in virtually all areas of development work," Bertrandt's CEO said in underscoring the set course.

Human resources management

On 31 March 2010, the number of staff throughout the Group was up by 318 to 5,749 vis-àvis the beginning of the financial year. This number puts Bertrandt close to the previous year's level of 5,824. There was a significant reduction in the number of employees working shorttime.
