Cognis and Laboratoires Sérobiologiques at HBA Global Expo 2009: solutions for a modern and "green" lifestyle
Among the active ingredients showcased by LS was Sphingoceryl(TM) WS, a water dispersible complex of biomimetic phyto-ceramides which protects skin and hair against environmental damages. For skin, it maintains an optimum rate of hydration by strengthening the cutaneous barrier. For hair, it helps to preserve dyed hair from fading after repeated washing thanks to its restructuring action on hair fibers (demonstrated in clinical tests). It also offers significant protection for ethnic hair after treatment with relaxing products. It is easy to formulate, especially in surfactant-based formulations.
In line with the increasing popularity of 'wrinkle fillers' such as hyaluronic acid, LS also presented Hyalurosmooth(TM) , a botanical alternative to hyaluronic acid. It is made of polysaccharides extracted from the seed of an Indian plant, Cassia Angustifolia, which forms a protective film on the skin that strongly binds water and fills in fine lines. It provides intense moisturization, while plumping up the skin, which further helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and to smooth the skin's surface. As a result of the smoother surface, light reflection is also improved, leading to increased skin radiance.
The second phase of the Green Chemical Solutions concept supports manufacturers in developing natural-source consumer products with highest possible performance. The Green Formulation Grid shows the naturalness of complete formulations (as opposed to individual ingredients) and their respective performance levels in comparison to market benchmarks. Four different levels of "greenness" of the formulation are measured against three levels of performance, always rated by the consumers' expectations.
At the trade show, LS also introduced Dr. LabSerobio, a range of cosmeceutical treatment products illustrating the market trend of "Dr. Brands". LS developed the Dr. LabSerobio range with Cognis Care Chemicals, combining their expertise of specialty chemicals and actives to create formulations that deliver proven efficacy, perfect tolerance and regulatory compliance. The formulations show that high efficacy, great texture and sensorial properties can go hand in hand. In line with the positioning of most "Dr. Brands," Dr. LabSerobio products target novel claims to maintain skin health and appearance, such as the skin's immune system or neurosensitivity, and offer powerful anti-aging treatments as well as solutions to problems such as skin redness, dark circles and oily skin.
Cognis and LS also presented their new "Be the artist of your body!" concept. Nowadays, consumers are looking for personal care solutions that enable them to create a certain image or look, while also indulging their senses - similar to the way in which an artist creates a painting. When developing the new concept, including a collection of innovative formulations for individual body care, Cognis concentrated on promoting the physical and emotional comfort and self-esteem of each individual, celebrating beauty as a unique creation. Considering the body as a piece of art that has to be created, "Be the artist of your body!" is a body care ritual - going from basic daily need to expert fine-tuning solutions in four steps: inspiration, moisturization, shaping and refinement.

Presentations on novel concepts for anti-aging & personal care ingredients
As part of the HBA Conference Program Technical Track session, Al Pearce, Senior Marketing Manager Personal Care of Cognis Corp., will be giving a presentation on September 16, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30.

As part of the HBA Conference Program Green session, Jeffrey Parker, Senior Technical Manager Personal Care of Cognis Corp., will be giving a presentation on September 16, from 2:35 p.m. to 4:20.
Presentations on skin protection
As part of the HBA Conference Program Technical Track session, Dr Sylvia Nefkens, Senior Product Manager and M. George Cutrone, Regional Account Manager of Laboratoires Sérobiologiques, will be respectively giving two presentations on September 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30.
Cutrone will start the conference session with a presentation entitled "A new peptide for (neuro) sensitive skin." He will present LS' innovative approach in the field of neurocosmetics, with a new peptide targeting modulation of the cutaneous nervous system, to promote skin comfort and normalize unpleasant sensations often experienced by people having sensitive skin.
Finally, Nefkens' presentation, entitled "Environmental stress and its role in skin aging" will explore how to counteract environmental stress damages and their impact on skin aging with substantiated protective and repairing active ingredients, using different models and techniques that mimic, visualize or quantify the effects of environmental stress on the skin.
