Market Update for the second quarter 2016: Optimistic estimation

(PresseBox) ( Frankfurt am Main, )
Edgar Walk, Chief Economist Metzler Asset Management, is optimistic about economic prospects in both the euro zone and the USA. The rising IFO index and purchasing managers' indices at the end of the quarter have shown that concerns about a noticeably cooling economy in the euro zone were exaggerated. The US economy seems to have easily withstood the key interest rate hike of December 2015 after some initial difficulties and to have returned to the dynamic growth path. However, Walk does seem concerned about the economic downturn in Japan resulting from the noticeable buying restraint among private households. On the bond markets, Walk sees only moderate potential for falling returns in the euro zone - and possibly a sharp rise in returns in the USA over the course of the year. The equity markets are likely to remain in choppy waters, not only because of Britain’s possible withdrawal from the European Union.
