Automatik Plastics Machinery has long been committed to the prudent use of all required resources in line with its corporate social responsibility. The issue of sustainability is an integral element of current planning, and is embedded as a principle in many different areas of the company's activities. Since all the various areas are interconnected, all Automatik Plastics Machinery employees play a role not only in conducting the company's business and generating its sales, but also in maintaining its sustainable ecological performance.

Here are just a few examples to illustrate the point:

A highly visible model of sustainable business practice is the recently updated and now highly energy-efficient central building now occupied by Customer Service. The experience gained from that upgrade will be applied in carrying out the upcoming renovation of the main building.

A less visible example, but no less important in terms of sustainability, is the initial idea for a new component, as that is where the wheels are set in motion for its entire lifecycle, and that of all the components dependent on it. The design process must therefore be founded on the use of standard and identical components. This permits lean tooling production, which has an immediate and direct effect on machine setup times, through to stocking of replacement parts so as to serve the global customer base promptly and efficiently.

Another area is documentation, incorporating key advice and guidance into the operating instructions to ensure optimum product use, maintaining the balance between maximum productivity and optimum conservation of resources. For the end of a product's life, Automatik Plastics Machinery provides guidance on how to dismantle and properly dispose of machinery which can be implemented specific to the country in question.

But that is a long way ahead, the final culmination of many years in production backed by Automatik Plastics Machinery's Customer Service function. Customer Service actively seeks to help customers with new developments to enhance production efficiency and make their operations run more energy-efficiently, as well as offering retrofit options to upgrade machine versions.

This approach extends machine service lives, meaning use of energy and commitment of other resources is delayed and ultimately reduced - because the next generation of pelletizing machinery will incorporate further updated production strategies to make them even more efficient.

The next generation of machines will be built by a new generation of staff who will in turn be able to call upon a reservoir of ideas accumulated by Automatik Plastics Machinery over many decades in the form of its extensive portfolio of patents. Some 20 to 30 patents are registered every year, ensuring that Automatik Plastics Machinery - despite being a medium-sized manufacturing company - is able to retain its position as the world market leader in its specialist field of thermoplastics pelletizing.
