Audi once again named top employer by engineers
- First place among engineers in the latest employer branding survey by the market research institute Universum

Germany's engineering students have once again voted AUDI AG the most attractive employer, as Universum revealed today in its Most Popular Employers rankings. The Ingolstadt-based automotive company came out on top among budding engineers to repeat as victor.
Universum polled 19,000 university students throughout Germany, of all semesters and various fields of study, about career opportunities and employer attractiveness. The findings show that engineering students prefer Audi over other employers. The company thus defended last year's title as Number One. AUDI AG furthermore finished in fourth place among economics students, just like in 2008. "These accolades confirm that we are definitely en route to becoming the automotive industry's most attractive employer by 2015," says Dr. Werner Widuckel, Member of the Board of Management for Human Resources at AUDI AG. He then underscored just how much students expect from top-tier employers. "People looking for a job consider key factors such as earning power, opportunities for career development, job security - but also the potential employer's products," explains Dr. Widuckel, before adding: "Our staff identifies with Audi's emotion-stirring cars. We'll expand our portfolio to 42 models by 2015.
For recent university graduates, that's tremendous incentive to accompany the brand's evolution. At the same time, they have an opportunity to set and achieve ambitious personal goals."
Despite - and indeed in light of - these economically challenging times, AUDI AG continues to invest in its innovative products and employees alike. The company is acknowledging its centennial anniversary with a campaign offering 100 additional apprenticeship slots, primarily in fields of innovation such as electric powertrains and lightweight design. Moreover, Audi will hire a total of 300 specialists this year.
Audi grooms secondary-school and university students via a broad spectrum of targeted training programs. "We value establishing contact early on to dedicated and gifted secondary-school and university students - be it at job fairs, during internships, or with regard to a thesis or dissertation," says Michael Groß, Head of Personnel Marketing at AUDI AG. "We offer them not only attractive jobs, but also excellent opportunities for career advancement."
The global leader in employer branding, Universum has been serving as a liaison between students and employers for 20 years. Its rankings are some of the most significant concerning the appeal of German employers.
Overview of AUDI AG's entry-level and training programs
Vocational training at Audi AUDI AG offers instruction in more than 20 skilled trades at its two German sites. In 2008, a total of 682 people began Audi apprenticeships in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm. In 2009, a total of 100 additional apprentice slots will be created. Moreover, participants can opt for dual-track education by attending vocational training while simultaneously qualifying to later study at a technical university.

Participants of the StEP Program benefit from a savvy blend of theory and practice, which consequently leads to excellent prospects for an Audi career and two full-fledged degrees in just five years: a Bachelor of Engineering and certification as a mechatronics specialist or vehicle mechatronics specialist (issued by a Chamber of Industry and Commerce). The Bachelor's program at the Vocational Academy/Dual University of Baden-Württemberg at Audi's Neckarsulm site allows participants to earn an internationally accredited Bachelor's degree within three years and profit from an intelligent balance of theory and practice. With Audi offering hands-on exposure and the Vocational Academy/Dual University of Baden-Württemberg providing classroom theory, participants acquire comprehensive expertise.
Be it Technical Development, Production, Toolmaking, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Customer Service, Marketing/Sales, Finances and Organization, or Human Resources - in principle, students can complete their internships at Audi in any operating division. Audi internships last eight weeks to six months. From day one, Audi interns actively participate in the workplace and on actual projects. In addition, Audi offers a broad array of offerings including an orientation session, a plant tour, and a series of presentations.
First Job Experience Program
Audi offers college graduates who have achieved good grades in their studies but have not yet had the time or opportunity to gain hands-on experience the chance to gain professional experience and an additional qualification during a six- to 12-month placement with appropriate remuneration.
International Trainee Program
During a 12-month training program, trainees get to know the key interfaces within and outside AUDI AG through various projects. They work independently on three to four projects in different areas during their traineeship. One project must be in their target field and a second at one of the Volkswagen Group's non-German sites.
Direct entrants immediately take on projects in their planned area of responsibility. New employees work with a mentor in their specialist area and customize a job familiarization strategy that introduces them to key contacts at the company.
Development program for graduates
The development program for university graduates and young professionals is aimed at engineers and economists. During their tailor-made program, participants first work one to two years in their target field. They then spend two years in interface roles to expand their knowledge of the process chain. After about four years, these experts possess interdisciplinary knowledge and can master responsibilities in their target field. Customized, advanced vocational training - on and off the job - complement this program.
University graduates at Audi can earn their doctorate in one of two ways: as an AUDI AG employee or by working together with Audi on a joint science project. The doctorate program at Audi has been continuously expanded in recent years. Some 130 scientists are currently earning their doctorate degrees at the automobile manufacturer in Ingolstadt.
AUDI AG sold a total of 1,003,469 cars in 2008 and thus achieved its 13th consecutive record year. The Company posted new record figures with revenue of €34.2 billion and profit before tax of €3.2 billion. Audi produces vehicles in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm (Germany), Györ (Hungary), Changchun (China) and Brussels (Belgium). Aurangabad in India saw the start of CKD production of the Audi A6 at the end of 2007 and of the Audi A4 in early October 2008. The Company is active in more than 100 markets worldwide. AUDI AG's wholly owned subsidiaries include Automobili Lamborghini Holding S.p.A. in Sant'Agata Bolognese (Italy) and quattro GmbH in Neckarsulm. Audi currently employs around 58,000 people worldwide, including 46,500 in Germany. The brand with the four rings invests around €2 billion each year in order to sustain the company's technological lead embodied in its "Vorsprung durch Technik" slogan. Audi plans to significantly increase the number of models in its portfolio by 2015 to 42. The AUDI brand celebrates its 100th birthday in 2009. The company was founded by August Horch in Zwickau on July 16, 1909; he named it AUDI after the Latin translation of his surname ("hark!").
