Fuel Saving Aerodynamics Technologies from ATDynamics Hit the Road in Europe
European Trucking Fleets Begin Using TrailerTail Technology to Reduce Fuel Consumption and Carbon Emissions / ATDynamics Announces Distribution Plans for TrailerTail and EcoSkirt Systems in France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Turkey(PresseBox) (SOLUTRANS / LYON, France, )
TrailerTails are mounted to a semi-trailer's rear doors and reduce aerodynamic drag at the flat rear surface of the trailer. Their patented origami design allows the devices to completely collapse out of the way when the semi-trailer doors are opened to allow the unhindered loading and unloading of cargo.
The EcoSkirt System is a flexible under-trailer side skirt that reduces aerodynamic drag under the trailer by directing airflow smoothly to the back of the trailer.
Emons Group, Dobbe Transport, Ewals CargoCare, and Transport Van Overveld are the first European fleets to utilize TrailerTail technology in Europe.
Emons Group has placed the TrailerTail Trident, a one meter boat tail device, on their shorter specialty trailers running trans-continental routes. The TrailerTail Trident has been proven in independent, third party, SAE Type II J1321 fuel economy testing to reduce fuel consumption by five percent.
In addition to the Eco50 and Trident devices, ATDynamics will offer the maximum efficiency, full length TrailerTail Eco120, a 122 centimeter boat tail currently in operation in the United States. The longer, more efficient TrailerTail device is pending regulatory approval by the European Commission. The draft legislation, which would legalize their use on maximum length trailers on European roadways, is expected to come for a vote by mid-2014.
ATDynamics TrailerTail and EcoSkirt System technologies will be distributed in France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Turkey through the following partners:
- Frappa, a leading French trailer manufacturer for France.
- Imbema Rhiwa, a leading truck and trailer parts distributor for The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
- Van Hool, a major manufacturer of commercial vehicles in Belgium.
- Iberica de Control Aerodynamico Sociedad Limitada a specialty commercial vehicle parts company in Spain.
- Distribution should also commence shortly in Turkey with an industry leading partner.
"Our European customers have expressed the greatest interest in our complete aerodynamic system, which is expected to deliver up to a ten percent fuel efficiency gain," said Devin Koch, Vice President of International Sales at ATDynamics. "The permitting of the maximum efficiency TrailerTail in Europe by the EU could more than double the fuel savings available at the rear of the trailer to about five percent. Pairing TrailerTail technology with the ATDynamics EcoSkirt System and other coming products could deliver a ten percent reduction in fuel consumption to transportation companies seeking a significant cost advantage over competitors."
ATDynamics will showcase the TrailerTail Eco50 at the 2013 SOLUTRANS trade show in Lyon, France from November 19 - 23, 2013 in the Frappa stand number 4K 162.
