Enhanced NEON support in DS-5 v5.4
DS-5 v5.4 brings improved support for the ARM NEON(TM) general purpose SIMD engine, which is available on most platforms based on the ARM Cortex-A8 and Cortex-A9 processors. NEON technology accelerates multimedia and signal processing algorithms such as video decoding, graphics, audio and gaming.
DS-5 speeds up the development of Linux drivers and codecs that make use of NEON by providing:
- Updated GNU Compiler (GCC v4.5.1) with NEON-specific performance improvements
- NEON register views in the DS-5 Debugger to view and modify the status of the NEON unit. These views are available when doing either kernel-space or user-space development
- Synchronized source code and disassembly views enable you to debug compiler-generated NEON code even at high levels of optimization
DS-5 v5.4 brings time-filtering and independent shared library support with ARM Streamline Performance Analyzer. These features allow users to quickly generate profiling reports to match particular time ranges, for example, when a specific task is performed. They also enable developers to profile shared libraries regardless of which or how many applications use them.
DS-5 v5.4 is available now for Windows and Linux host platforms, and can be evaluated for 30 days free of charge by downloading it from http://www.arm.com/ds5.

ARM will be showing DS-5 at the Embedded World tradeshow in Nuremberg on 1-3 March 2011 at the ARM/Keil booth: hall 10, booth 343.
The demos include performance analysis on a multi-core target using Streamline, and Linux kernel awareness in the DS-5 Debugger.
