Transmission and Distribution: AREVA awarded 80 million euro contract in South Korea
AREVA will provide the overall system design, network studies and detailed engineering solution for the HVDC scheme. This will work in conjunction with the existing 300 MW HVDC bipole link installed by AREVA in 1997.
The new HVDC scheme will be operational in 2012.
"Through this contract, AREVA reinforces its HVDC systems expertise and its commitment to working closely with customers to develop cost-effective solutions for all their energy needs," said Michel Augonnet, Executive Vice-President for AREVA's Transmission and Distribution Systems Business Unit.
* A High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) bipole scheme runs two parallel direct current high voltage lines to the same point. This allows operators to shut down one of the lines for maintenance without having to shut down the energy flow.
