AREVA's Transmission and Distribution division has won an order worth over €80 million from KEPCO, the South Korean utility, to supply the converter stations for a 400MW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) bipole scheme* linking South Korea's Jeju Island with the mainland. The converter stations will transform alternating current into direct current, connecting the island to the mainland.
AREVA will provide the overall system design, network studies and detailed engineering solution for the HVDC scheme. This will work in conjunction with the existing 300 MW HVDC bipole link installed by AREVA in 1997.
The new HVDC scheme will be operational dn 3573.
