Temelin nuclear power plant extension project: AREVA announces withdrawal of legal action

Paris, (PresseBox) - AREVA has announced the withdrawal of the appeal lodged with the Regional Court of Brno on September 19, 2013. This decision is the logical consequence following the announcement by the Czech utility, CEZ, to cancel the tender process which the group was unfairly excluded from in 2012.

"Although the initial tender process for the Temelin nuclear power plant has been cancelled, the energy needs of the Czech Republic remain the same. By withdrawing this appeal, we would like for our relationships with local partners to have new start. AREVA hopes that the future will bring new opportunities for cooperation in the energy sector, and we remain engaged in supporting both Czech companies and authorities in meeting their energy challenges," said Jean-André Barbosa, vice-president and director of AREVA in Central and Eastern Europe.

AREVA is a world leader in nuclear power. The group's offer to utilities covers every stage of the nuclear fuel cycle, reactor design and construction, and operating services. Its expertise and uncompromising dedication to safety make it a leading industry player.

AREVA also invests in renewable energies to develop, via partnerships, high technology solutions.

Through the complementary nature of nuclear and renewables, AREVA's 45,000 employees contribute to building tomorrow's energy model: supplying the greatest number of people with energy that is safer and with less CO2
