Andritz MAERZ supplies heat treatment plant for train wheels to Russia

(PresseBox) (Graz, ) Andritz MAERZ with headquarters in Düsseldorf, Germany, a member of international technology Group Andritz, will supply a heat treatment plant for train wheels for the ironworks combine Nizhniy Tagil Iron & Steel Works (NTMK) in Tagil, Russia.

With the train wheel heat treatment plant that Andritz MAERZ will supply, heavy-duty train wheels for the Russian railway company will be heat-treated. The supply comprises two high and two low temperature furnaces, 14 hardening machines and the complete equipment for transporting the wheels from the wheel rolling mill to the heat treatment system with suitable manipulators for charging the wheels and the equipment for fully automatic operation of the entire plant.

The production capacity of the heat treatment system is 100 wheels per hour. The plant essentially features heat treatment and hardening of the wheels, with traceability for each wheel. At identical warming-up and residence time, the wheels are conveyed through the furnaces in a single layer and singly into the hardening machines, where they are subjected to identical cooling times. Control of the surface hardening of the wheel treads is computerized, which allows to prove the values achieved individually for each wheel.

The wheel heat treatment plant for NTMK, a member of Russian EVRAZ Group, will be installed and placed in operation within the record time of 12 months. This project will be handled in cooperation with Presstrade Pressenhandel GmbH and W.S. Werkstoff Service GmbH, both Germany.

The decisive factor for selecting Andritz MAERZ was a reference plant supplied to Bochumer Verein Verkehrstechnik GmbH, Germany, in operation since 2002. This reference plant and the plant to be supplied to NTMK affirm Andritz MAERZ' capacity as supplier of heat treatment systems with highest energy efficiency and annealing quality, with the resulting customer benefits of optimized economy of plant operation.
