ANDRITZ Maerz to supply anode furnaces and Peirce-Smith converters for First Quantum's copper smelter, Zambia

International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order for supply of two anode furnaces and four Peirce-Smith converters for Kansanshi Mining Plc, a subsidiary of First Quantum Minerals Ltd., Zambia. Start-up is scheduled for 2014.

The scope of supply includes the latest ANDRITZ Maerz combustion and refining systems, slag settling tanks, drive units and control system, as well as the steel structures for the furnaces and converters. With the furnaces and converters, more than 300,000 t of anode copper can be produced annually from copper matte.
