Sylvie LaPerrière of Google elected to AMS-IX Board

AMS-IX Association chooses Google's interconnection expert to be part of the AMS-IX Board

(PresseBox) (Amsterdam, ) Members of the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) Association have appointed Sylvie LaPerrière, Program Manager Network Content Distribution at Google, as the newest Executive Board member during the Community Meeting of the 21st of November held in Amsterdam. She is the first woman ever to be part of the AMS-IX board, and this means the first steps have been taken towards gender balance on executive level, which is especially challenging in this technical oriented industry. Sylvie succeeds Reinart Wellinkvoorde of Vodafone who has served his maximum of two terms. It will be decided later who of the Board members takes over Reinart's role as vice-chair/secretary.

The peering and interconnection world, in which AMS-IX plays an important role, is very familiar to Sylvie. She is part of Google's global interconnection team as a strategic negotiator managing the network edge and content delivery programs. In her former jobs at organisations like Tata Communications and Teleglobe she has gained much experience in developing peering partnerships and negotiating commercial agreements with telecom and Internet operators worldwide.

"Sylvie's long history in the global Internet community makes her a valuable addition to the AMS-IX Executive Board", says Job Witteman, CEO of the AMS-IX Company. "The Board can make good use of a peering and interconnection professional like Sylvie in making the right decisions for the strategy and mission of AMS-IX and its further development."

"I'm delighted that the AMS-IX Association trust me worthy to serve as a member on the Board," comments Sylvie. "It's great to be an important part of an organisation that build its reputation on strong engineering, operational stability and commercial user friendliness. With my understanding of the Internet ecosystem and my first-hand knowledge of peering and commercial arrangements I can help AMS-IX moving in the right direction and retain its position as the world's leading Internet exchange."

"I'm thrilled about the appointment of Sylvie and the opportunity to work with her", says Christian Kaufmann, chairman of the AMS-IX Board. "As the first female AMS-IX board member she contributes to its diversity. Also she brings along a lot of experience, because of her working history at both Tier 1 networks and CDNs".
