Airpas Aviation extends its cooperation with Oracle

Lower Saxony software specialist offers small and medium-sized airlines commercially attractive solutions from a single source

The airline industry calls for management systems that continually adapt themselves to market conditions. Airpas Aviation, the software and consultancy specialist for the airline sector, has expanded its cooperative partnership with the Oracle Corporation, one of the world's major software manufacturers. Existing and new airline customers now have a solution at their fingertips that enables them to access the Oracle database without the need for a contract with the US company. Airpas Aviation CEO Reinhold Renger was asked about the extension of the product portfolio to include "airpas/Oracle Option".

Mr Renger, your company is cooperating with the US software giant Oracle. What is the nature of your partnership?

Smaller airlines, in particular, but other medium-sized companies, too, are cautious about using extensive software products and services. Our airpas product is built on an Oracle database. As an Oracle Gold Partner, we are now able to provide our airpas product integrated with the Oracle database and offer options such as memory partitions and data protection. That enables us to meet the demands of airlines even better - particularly when it comes to high availability, scalability and performance.

What does that mean in practice?

Until now, airlines that wanted to use our airpas solution had to obtain their own Oracle licence, sign a maintenance contract with Oracle and accumulate their own internal expertise. Under the "airpas/Oracle Option" we look after the technical side, such as database administration and support. The particular attraction for airlines is that they can use the product combination without any administrative responsibilities. In short: everything is from a single source - we take care of the Oracle administration for our clients and the airline does not have to build up and maintain any know-how.

What advantages do clients gain from your partnership with Oracle?

It means we can give our clients access to one of the world's leading integrable databases. The client has just a single contact in Airpas Aviation. It is a one-stop shop that makes the solution attractive, both from an operative viewpoint and from a business one - and it is an ideal way to start working with a top-quality product, especially for small and medium-sized airlines. You could call it a service by an SME for SMEs.

So your target group is clients such as regional airlines without their own IT departments

Yes. But the "airpas/Oracle Option" can be commercially attractive for larger airlines, too. Depending on the client's hardware and software set-up, investment in this product combination can result in five-figure or six-figure cost savings for an airline.
