JamaicaVM Personal Edition available for download

aicas GmbH announces the release of JamaicaVM Personal Edition (PE) for Linux PCs. PE offers developers new to embedded and realtime Java, the opportunity to learn about, experiment with, prototype, verify and validate their applications with the complete JamaicaVM toolchain and runtime. Embedded engineers can now do a risk reduction analysis on using JamaicaVM and realtime garbage collection (RTGC) before beginning their next project.

Prior to the release of PE, engineers identified their target CPU architecture, target operating system and computer board before purchasing, downloading and installing the JamaicaVM toolchain. The software development lifecycle then started off with configuring and learning the tools, building example programs and first prototypes. One might have said, using Java Technologies, and JamaicaVM with the realtime garbage collector for embedded and realtime applications took a "leap of faith". PE rearranges the software development lifecycle and completely removes the "leap of faith". Any questions about cross-development, embedding, determinism, performance, reliability, and other related issues can now be answered well in advance of the CPU, OS and computer board decision.

Dr. James J. Hunt, CEO of aicas, said "We are excited about making JamaicaVM Personal Edition available as a free download. We hear concerns continually about the suitability of the Java programming language for embedded development. PE finally breaks down this barrier, making it possible for engineers and their managers to prove for themselves, what we already know, that Java is a great programming language for professional high-quality embedded software applications. We hope that PE helps increase acceptance of Java by the embedded software engineering community."
