The New Diamond Lux Line: the turnkey solution particularly suitable for molding surfaces with high thermal and aesthetic requirements
The new line from HRSflow was developed for PC applications that require high aesthetic quality such as Front Headlamps and in the Plastic Glazing market for the manufacturing of large injection-compression transparent surfaces.
HRS's twenty years of experience has allowed us to develop a new hot runner system line called Diamond Lux, particularly suitable for molding PC components that require high aesthetic qualities. This line is suitable for molding any Front Headlamp components for the automotive industry: Housings, Bezels and especially for lenses molded in PC or PC-HT.
This new line finds its perfect application also in the innovative Plastic Glazing sector where Quarter Windows and Panorama Roofs formerly manufactured in Silica Glass are now molded in Polycarbonate by using the multishot tecnology to integrate locating and mounting features.
This new technology is beginning to establish itself in the automotive market which is made possible thanks to "injection-compression" which INglass-HRSflow holds numerous patents worldwide.
In the new Diamond Lux Line, particular attention has been dedicated to the thermal optimization of hot runners - the fundamental factor that affects the aesthetics of the molded part. The objective was achieved by insulating the plates from the mold using spacers with low thermal conductivity and paying particular attention to the power loss in the thermal bridges. All contacts towards the mold were geometrically optimized in order to reduce the thermal power dissipation and were made of materials with low thermal conductivity.
The heaters are symmetrically placed in the top and bottom of the manifolds to reduce cold zones and high residence time. The screwed-in nozzles do not allow any contact with the mold except for the tip area.
Nozzle thermal control is optimized thanks to the use of special brass sleeve heaters. Each heater is dedicated to the thermal control of the gate zone and this ensures a more precise and steady process control. The brass also allows standardizing the thermal profile thanks to its high thermal conductivity.
These technical solutions ensure a more constant temperature, with a tolerance of + / - 10oC across the entire system. The customer is provided for each system the thermal analysis of the manifolds to show how the temperature consistency is reliable.
The nozzle is fully protected by a stainless steel protection tube that assures both a homogeneous distribution of the temperature by reducing thermal dissipation and at the same time acts as a guard to the thermocouples wires.
The nozzle design was also changed to minimize cut out pocket space in the injection area.
All the hot runner internal channels are engineered to avoid stagnation spots that could cause unacceptable defects in crystal clear lenses.
Special shaped plugs have also been implemented to further avoid any stagnation close the valve gate pin.
The tip and end rings geometry and material used to produce them, have been selected to optimize the temperature in the gate area. Special attention was therefore paid to the quality of injection point/vestige into the molded part.
Furthermore they have been designed to have an excellent performance even with high injection pressures.
Finally the entire hot runner is made of a special steel with a coating able to void polycarbonate degradation, thereby preventing the risk of unaesthetic black spots on crystal clear applications such as lenses and window panels. The result is less rejects and higher productivity.
