CHINAPLAS 2012 - Future Zone Unveiling the Prologue of the Future World

Hong Kong, (PresseBox) - Hundreds of years ago, nobody would imagine that smart phones, digital cameras, electric vehicles, high-speed rails, smart cards, solar panels, plastic wraps, LED lightings and so on, would become part of the modern life and closely connected with plastics and rubber. Such products, regarded as new inventions in the past, have combined the unlimited creativity and cutting-edge science and technology together.

Encompassing the most advanced plastics and rubber technology in the world, the 26th International Exhibition on Plastics and Rubber Industries (known as CHINAPLAS 2012) will be held from 18th to 21st April 2012 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, China. This exhibition will show the manufacturing industries in the world how well technology can be integrated with innovation and creativity, and how CHINAPLAS dedicatedly supports the plastics and rubber industries in heading towards the road of green manufacturing.

In pursuance to the successful theme of "Green Plastics. Our Goal. Our Future" last year, the theme for CHINAPLAS 2012 this year has been refined as "The Future is in Plastics and Rubber". It carries the meaning that plastics and rubber are new materials and are closely related to all aspects of our daily life. With its wide range of application, the new materials play a vital role in improving our future life and promoting the continuous development of other industries, through contributing enormously on energy conservation and environmental protection.

In parallel with the theme of "The Future is in Plastics and Rubber", the organizer has set up an activity called "Future Zone" to showcase the unlimited creativity on plastics application. This activity has received widespread support and recognition. Supporting partners and co-organizing units include East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Society of Plastics Industry, ASSOCOMAPLAST - Italian Plastics & Rubber Processing Machinery and Moulds Manufacturers' Association and Shanghai Automotive Trade Association. In addition, the organizer has also invited Mr. Shuwen Liu, Senior Engineer of Shanghai GM/Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center Co., Ltd as the consultant of the event. Moreover, the organizer is glad to announce that Demag Plastics Group and Kingfa Sci. & Tech. Co Ltd are the Platinum Sponsors of the event, while Reliance Industries Ltd is the Gold Sponsor.

The "Future Zone" consists of two programs. The first one is called "Nurturing Our Future", which aims at combining plastics and rubber applications, technology, creativity and innovations from experts among industrial, commercial and academic fields into the implementation of a "Future Car". The whole design, selection and production of the "Future Car" will last for five months. This program has already attracted a total of 15 groups of students of the University to take part.

Three groups of finalists include: (1) Batshark - inspired by the elegant and agile marine creature called bat shark, the body of the car is constructed with special materials, utilizing solar energy as the major power supply. (2) Elf -from the concept of military flight as the design backbone, the car body is constructed with materials characterized by ultimate strength and feather weight, with 360 degrees panoramic view without any blind spot, thereby greatly enhanced the safety of the car. (3) LeoHunter - inspired by Leopard's speedy movement and flexibility, the characteristics of this car are super lightweight, high stability and high speed.

All the three design concepts emphasize on high performance and energy saving. The winning entry will be selected by a judging panel which comprises of experts from the plastics and automotive industry, the representatives of university and the organizer. The entry displaying the best ideas of creativity, eco-friendliness and effectiveness in improving our future lives will be awarded as the winning project.

The organizer will showcase the winning entry by making a 1:1 car model at the "Future Zone" during CHINAPLAS 2012 in April. The organizers will also provide a detailed introduction on its features, advantages as well as its application in the future world.

During a press conference held in Shanghai this afternoon (Mar 15), Mr Stanley Chu, Chairman of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, Organizer of CHINAPLAS, stated that CHINAPLAS 2012 was the largest exhibition in Asia and the second largest one in the world's among all other plastics and rubber exhibitions. The student representative of "Batshark" design team, Mr Li Rui, on behalf of the East China University of Science and Technology, said that their participation in the program had led them out from classroom and let them study seriously and pragmatically on vehicle engineering, composite materials, polymer materials, art and design areas. The imaginary future car contained innovative ideas and epoch technology, and had boldly outlined their features of "lightweight", "environmentally friendly" and "energy-saving". She thanked the organizer for providing such a wonderful platform to them so that they could think boundlessly about the future and apply their knowledge learnt from school.
