Weidmüller PLC migration interface: Replace PLC systems in a few short hours and avoid cabling errors

Make adaptations or changes to infrastructure simply and quickly without having to interfere with the field cabling

(PresseBox) (Detmold, )
Whether they operate in the process, chemicals, cement or automotive industry, or even in the energy sector, plant operators need to perform PLC system updates or retrofits with as few extended downtimes as possible. With the Weidmüller PLC migration interfaces, users achieve their goal more quickly, because there's no need to make any changes to the field cabling. The PLC migration process is shortened from a few weeks to just a few hours - including system tests - so the time needed to migrate the entire plant is reduced significantly. This means that production facilities can return to regular operation even after the briefest of downtimes. Users will find that Weidmüller offers a wide range of suitable migration components for all common PLC systems. At the present time, for instance, Weidmüller has a wide range of front adapters (FAD) for Siemens S-5 and Schneider Electric TSX in its portfolio.

The new front adapters (FAD) avoid cabling errors when PLC systems are being replaced and keep plant downtimes to a minimum during the migration process. Users are also provided with tested, pre-assembled cables coordinated to the application at hand and front adapters which ensure error-free connection of the new PLC. The Weidmüller front adapters are the easiest way of combining ageing plants with new PLC systems. There are virtually no limits to the potential uses of the retrofitting components.

When used together with pre-assembled system cables, the Weidmüller front adapters for the Siemens S5-115 enable safe migration from the old S5-115 systems to other PLC systems or to Weidmüller's "u-remote" I/O system. It is also possible to quickly and reliably migrate from old Schneider systems to other PLC systems and to Weidmüller "u-remote" with the Weidmüller front adapter BLK and the pre-assembled system cables.

The new Weidmüller front adapters are connected on the field side using plug-in connectors in accordance with IEC60603-13/DIN41651 20 p. The operating voltage is 30 V AC / 60 V DC, while the overall operating current is 3 A. Each front adapter is CE-certified and can be operated without restriction in a wide temperature range from - 25° to + 50 °C.

The 19" migration racks from Weidmüller are designed to take up as little space as possible in the control cabinet. The rack system replaces the old control and combines connection levels and the new control to create one compact unit. All the connection components can be reached with ease by simply folding down the top level. The Weidmüller front adapters (FAD) can be simply snapped onto the DIN rail with their mechanical feet. Users assign front adapters and existing field cabling to the bottom level, while the new PLC is allocated to the top level. The fold-down hinge simplifies access to the old cabling during commissioning or maintenance work.

Simple configuration tables from Weidmüller translate into an application-specific selection process; they make it easier for you to choose all the elements you need. The lists compare both old and new PLC cards and provide precise descriptions of the rack system, as well as the required front adapters and pre-assembled cables.
