As a wind turbine manufacturer, Fuhrländer AG (FLAG) (www.fuhrlaender.de) headquartered in Liebenscheid, Rhineland Palatine has been a pioneer in the market for renewable energy for approximately 25 years. Joachim Fuhrländer, chairman of the board of FLAG, announces a new acquisition.
Effective 31 Dec. 2011 FLAG has acquired a majority interest in W2E Wind to Energy GmbH (W2E) (www.wind-to-energy.de). The highly specialized engineering company with headquarters in Rostock is devoted to the development of wind power plants.
During the approximately 10 years of close cooperation between the two companies, FLAG has already implemented all of W2E's groundbreaking designs.
A highpoint of this cooperation was the successful launch of a 2.5 MW turbine with up to 103 meter rotor diameter and hub heights of 85 – 160 meters, which is currently FLAG's bestselling product. A technology that in recent years FLAG has been able to establish worldwide through joint ventures and licensing agreements.
Multiple prototypes of interesting 2 MW turbines with 93 meter rotors were also installed, certified and evaluated in Germany.
Since 2011 both companies have been working on the construction of several prototypes of a 3 MW class turbine planned for installation this year. The turbine has a rotor diameter of 120 meters and will be initially installed on tubular towers with a hub height of 105 meters and later will be available on 140 meter hybrid towers. Installations are planned in Waigandshain, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as well as in the Ukraine.
Due to the high level of innovation, the development of this turbine is supported by funds from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
The parties have agreed not to disclose the commercial terms of the transaction.
