Based on the outdated technology and the high maintenance costs, the Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) replaced its legacy IT tool ideaNet with the more modern target Idea Management system. After a World Trade Organization (WTO) call for proposals, the contract was awarded at the end of 2014 to SAP partner company target software solution. Now, DDPS now has a state-of-the-art innovation management tool that meets its technical and functional requirements.

How and when did DDPS implement target Idea Management?
The technical implementation of the new tool began in November 2014 and was formally rolled out at DDPS in February 2015. The new solution has proven itself an extraordinarily stable IT software that supports the transformation of innovation management at DDPS. As part of the information management process, “old” ideas from the legacy system were transferred to the new one, so it could still be used as a knowledge repository. From a Controlling perspective, existing ideas can still be taken into account during the idea management process.
What were the major changes?
The existing IT software was software was not only technically outdated but it also did not meet the requirements of today’s innovation management. In addition, unlike the legacy solution, the new solution used same design and therefore had the same “look and feel” of the employee’s existing enterprise portal. It is both easy to use and tailored to the needs of the role owners making the switch to a new platform was effortless and as a result, highly successful.
