The new Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG = WEEE Germany) came into force on 24 th October 2015. From 24 th July 2016, stationary retail sellers from a sales surface of 400 sqm for electrical devices respectively online retailers with a sales and shelf space from 400 sqm on (according to the information of the Federal Ministry for the Environment) have to take back used electrical devices free of charge. Online retailers have to prove take-back options at an acceptable distance to the corresponding end customers all over the German federal territory. In addition to that, comprehensive registration, reporting and reference requirements need to be complied with. It is not admissible to refer to public-law collection points.
