Gebr. Schmid, a systems manufacturer and process provider based in Freudenstadt Germany, and the Shimadzu Corporation of Japan, a specialist in PECVD coating units, have reached a strategic cooperation agreement in key areas. The agreement was concluded in August. Integrating the Shimadzu PECVD coating units into the photovoltaic process chain will enable Schmid to continue to optimize key process parameters in turnkey equipment, including the reproducibility and constancy of results and the scrap rate. In addition, the collaboration paves the way for the development of new cell concepts. The cooperation agreement with Schmid will substantially expand Shimadzu's marketing base. Schmid will assume the exclusive global marketing of Shimadzu's turnkey-project integrated systems. An agreement on exclusive distribution rights for Shimadzu individual equipment was reached for Europe and much of Asia.
