Google's ATAP Group shows first Tango Tablets at Google I/O live with pmd's 3D technology

3D technology based on pmd is now available for developers to enable human-scale understanding of space and motion on mobile devices

(PresseBox) (Siegen, )
Today Google's Advanced Technology and Projects group (ATAP) is demonstrating their latest Project Tango Tablet Development Kits at Google I/O 2014 (www.google.com/events/io). Developed within Project Tango these 7'' tablets were announced earlier in June (https://plus.google.com/...) and have already created a lot of excitement within the developer community. Now, for the first time, the tablets with integrated pmd-based depth sensors are shown publicly. Epic. Besides a motion tracking and a RGB camera the tablets utilize a pmd-based 3D-ToF (Time-of-Flight) sensor to allow the tablet to sense its environment with human-scale understanding of space and motion, i.e. real-time in 3D. The ToF sensor used in the tablet has been jointly developed by Infineon Technologies AG (TM) and pmdtechnologies GmbH. For further information see www.infineon.com/3d-imaging.

"We are proud that Google's ATAP group shows the world for the first time how our 3D technology is contributing to the addition of environmental awareness to mobile devices in a new and unique way. We also look forward to seeing what kind of amazing applications will be developed based on this tablet as the possibilities are endless in applications such as augmented reality, architecture, retail, gaming, and many more.", says Dr. Bernd Buxbaum, CEO of pmdtechnologies gmbh.
