PLDS building demo with RealVNC’s MirrorLink 1.1 Automotive technology

PLDS demonstrating collaboration with RealVNC’s technology at Automechanika, Frankfurt

(PresseBox) (Wetzlar, )
RealVNC™, the provider of VNC® remote access software, and PLDS, one of the world's leading companies for automotive infotainment, today announced that they have teamed up to bring RealVNC's MirrorLink Certified™ 1.1 technology, VNC Automotive, to PLDS's smartphone integration solution.

PLDS was demonstrating the technology at Automechanika in Frankfurt from 16th-20th September. Along with its wireless charging ability the unit showed the seamless integration of the smartphone into the car's infotainment units. Once you place the smartphone on a predefined area in the car NFC communication starts to enable engine start as well as Bluetooth® pairing. In addition to that, VNC Automotive is started via NFC to mirror the smartphone display in the headunit. That makes the phone usage in the car completely wireless.

VNC Automotive delivers video frame rates with negligible latency to the front screen whilst showing multiple simultaneous videos streaming to several rear seat entertainment screens. It enables a phone application such as navigation maps to be accessible from the front screen of the vehicle, whilst at the same time, from the same phone, streaming content such as different videos and games to multiple screens in the rear.

The technology also allows for multiple mobile devices to connect to the vehicle at the same time and stream content so any passengers in the car will also be able to access their phone content, including videos and music. This gives automotive manufacturers the best flexibility to tailor their offering in a unique way.

"PLDS has been working on the truly wireless solutions for some time now and is very excited about the possibilities that new software provides," said Stefan Graf, CTO and Director Marketing at PLDS Germany GmbH." We will continue our long lasting and successful relationship with RealVNC to create the ultimate user experience in the vehicle."

"We have a long standing relationship with PLDS and are delighted to be working with them to deliver new capabilities," said Tom Blackie, Vice President Mobile of RealVNC. "Many of the world's largest automotive manufacturers, Tier 1 suppliers and mobile phone vendors are choosing our advanced VNC technology to deliver commercial MirrorLink Certified production programs."
