MSC Technologies provides the smallest Quad-band GSM/GPRS module from Quectel in a 44-pin LCC package

MSC Technologies, a business group of Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA, a business region of Avnet Inc. (NYSE: AVT), now offers Quectel's M66 Quad-band GSM/GPRS module. The M66 is delivered in an ultra-compact 44-pin LCC package with dimensions of 17.7 mm x 15.8 mm x 2.3 mm, thus it is the smallest Quad-Band GPRS module worldwide available today. The module weighs approximately 1.3 g.

The compact M66 GSM/GPRS module is based on MTK's latest MTK 6261M 2G chipset, which Quectel uses in GPRS modules as standard. It operates in the GSM850MHz, GSM900MHz, DCS1800MHz and PCS1900MHz frequency bands. Furthermore, GPRS multi-slot class 12 with GPRS coding schemes CS 1, CS-2, CS-3 and CS-4 is supported. This ensures a maximum data rate downlink and uplink transfer of 85.6 kbps.

The technologies for energy efficiency implemented in the module ensure a low power consumption of only 1.2 mA at DRX = 9. The M66 module is specified for the extended operating temperature range from 40°C to +85°C and is therefore suited for a wide range of industrial applications.

Thanks to its ultra-compact dimensions, its low power consumption and its extended operating temperature range, the M66 Quad-band GSM/GPRS module is suitable for a wide range of machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, such as in vehicle/person tracking systems, safety systems, wireless POS, industrial PDA, smart metering and remote maintenance/control systems.

The M66 has three UART interfaces, one RTC interface as well as one input channel and two output channels as well as an analog audio interface. The device integrates internet service protocols such as TCP/UDP, FTP and PPP. Other features include DTMF, QuecLocator and QuecFOTA for simple software updating and jamming detection. Furthermore, the module will support Bluetooth according to specification 3.0 in the near future. Serial Port Profile (SPP), Object Push Profile (OPP) and Hands-Free Profile (HFP) protocols will be available then.

An evaluation kit and appropriate terminal adapter are available from MSC Technologies for rapid integration of the M66 Quad-band GSM/GPRS module.
