MSC Technologies presents extremely compact GNSS module from Quectel for industrial applications

(PresseBox) (Stutensee, )
MSC Technologies, a company of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), has expanded its product portfolio to include the energy-efficient L76-L GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) module from Quectel. The module features an extremely compact size of 10.1 mm x 9.7 mm x 2.5 mm. In contrast to the predecessor model, the new L76-L has a built-in low-noise amplifier (LNA) with GNSS receiver. The LNA offers high RF-sensitivity as well as high acquisition and tracking capabilities – even in an environment with weak signal reception. This has the advantage that passive antennas, instead of special LNA antennas, can be used in the device.

The L76-L is based on the MediaTek MT3333 chipset and supports Multi-GNSS with GPS, GLONASS, QZSS and in the future Galileo. The GNSS module utilizes 33 tracking channels, 99 acquisition channels and 210 PRN channels. The acquisition sensitivity is -149 dBm and tracking sensitivity is specified at -167 dBm. Thanks to the advanced AGPS technology called EASY™ (Embedded Assist System), the hot start time of the first position detection is less than one second and a cold start time of less than 15 seconds. The AlwaysLocate™ technology implemented in the L76-L ensures low power consumption despite high positioning accuracy. Thanks to the embedded logger function called LOCUS, position information can be stored in an internal flash memory with a time interval of 15 seconds. The memory capacity is sufficient for more than 16 hours measurement period.

In addition to UART interface, among other things, an I²C interface for the NMEA port is available.

Thanks to its good performance and high energy efficiency, the L76-L GNSS module is suitable for a wide variety of industrial, automotive, security and consumer machine-to-machine (M2M) applications as well as for use in mobile computer systems for the industrial environment. The module is specified for the extended operating temperature range from -40 °C to +85 °C.
