MSC Technologies offers numerous qualified and validated mass storage variants for its NanoServer embedded systems

MSC Technologies, a business unit of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), has substantially expanded the offering of standard mass storage for the embedded system family NanoServer® I/O N1. This enables a saving of development costs incurred for certification and a considerable optimization of the time-to-market for the end product.

The robust industrial housing of the NanoServer® I/O N1 provides space for two 2.5“ HDDs/ SSDs, in which one drive occupies the PCI Express™ slot, and one mSATA SSD. MSC Technologies offers as ready-to-use standard mass storage 500 GB or 1 TB 2,5“ HDDs, 2,5“ SSDs with 32, 80, 120, 180 or 240 GB and 30, 60, 120 GB mSATA SSDs.

The NanoServer® embedded systems with I/O Shield are available in two different variants. The cost-optimized N1-A3 box PC integrates the Intel® Atom™ E3845 processor with four processor CPU cores (1.91 GHz), the dual-core Intel® Atom™ E2826 processor can be delivered on request. The powerful Intel® HD Graphics Gen. 7 is integrated in the CPU. Thanks to the low power dissipation of the CPU, the embedded PC can be operated at temperatures as high as 40 °C without requiring a housing fan. The high-performance N1-Q87 box IPC is based on the Intel® Q87 Express desktop chipset and a fourth-generation (desktop series) Intel® Core™ i3/i5/i7 processor with on-chip HD4600 Intel® HD Graphics.

Despite its small installation height of 80 mm, the compact NanoServer® I/O N1 offers a number of popular interfaces. In addition to the USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 interfaces, two GbE LAN interfaces, Serial ATA and HD Audio are available. DVI, DisplayPort (DP) and VGA permit the connection of independent, high-resolution displays. For system expansions, there are a free PCI Express™ x16 or x1 slot for short cards and one or two internal Mini PCI Express™ slots.

The sophisticated industrial housing of the NanoServer® I/O is suitable for industrial applications. The N1-Q87 is supplied via a 12/24 VDC wide-range input or alternatively via an external 100 - 240 VAC power supply (90 W). The N1-A3 has an external 60 W 100 - 240 V AC power supply.
