Taper, cleave, bundle, splice: the CMS can do it all. The new combiner manufacturing system by 3SAE is used to process optical fibers with a high reproducibility in the laboratory. The patented “thermally stabilized plasma™” technology ensures stable and, in particular, reproducible conditions across a temperature range of <300°C to >3000°C in order to manufacture tapers, combiners, and fiber bundles and to splice optical fibers and endcaps between 50 μm and 2.5 mm. The assembly prevents the contamination of the glass; this leads to the successful production of ultrahigh-power components for applications into the kilowatt range.

During processing, the user can change both adjustment platforms, the position of the electrodes, and the electric arc settings 25 times per second; this makes it possible to program highly-optimized processes. The handling of the complex system is easy: The taper manufacturing is done by software which is included and with which tapers as long as 175 mm can be designed and produced with different shapes . The integrated cleaver makes it possible to separate components at the desired position with micrometer precision.
