Die Beauftragung erging an das tschechische Werk in Ústí nad Labem, die Serienproduktion startet zu Beginn des Jahres 2018. Die Kolbenmodule sind für vier- und sechszylindrige Diesel-Motoren eines Automobilherstellers im Premiumsegment bestimmt.
KSPG stellt bereits seit einiger Zeit eine vermehrte Nachfrage nach Stahlkolben bei Pkw-Dieselmotoren fest. Pkw-Stahlkolben liegen im Trend des aktuellen Motorenbaus, sie verringern den Kraftstoffverbrauch und senken CO2-Emissionen um drei bis fünf Prozent. Dies gilt sowohl für moderate als auch höhere Leistungsdichten. Maßnahmen zur Verbrauchsreduktion und der damit verbundenen Verminderung des CO2-Ausstoßes basieren auf der Reduzierung der mechanischen Reibleistung, der Optimierung der Verbrennungsabläufe und dem Leichtbau.
Die hohe Festigkeit von Stahl erlaubt konstruktiv außerdem eine deutlich kleinere Dimensionierung von Kolbenhöhe und Wandstärke im Vergleich zu Kolben aus Aluminium. Dies bringt nicht nur Bauraum-, sondern auch Gewichtsvorteile.
