KRONOTEX USA, a company of the SWISS KRONO GROUP, is expanding its capacity for producing laminate flooring by implementing another system for manufacturing high-density fibreboard (HDF) boards to serve as the core material of laminate flooring. Work to build the system will begin in mid-2016, and the plans call for it to be commissioned in the summer of 2018. Running concurrently with the existing system, it will boost the total annual production volume by eight million square meters to more than 33 million square meters of laminate flooring. “We are responding to the growing demand for high-quality laminate flooring,” says Max von Tippelskirch, CMO of the SWISS KRONO GROUP. “Our investments in the new system will enable us to continue meeting our customers’ wishes and consolidate our shares of important markets.” The HDF boards are also sold to makers of furniture and doors as well as to other wood processing firms. As a result of the investment, KRONOTEX USA will create 105 new jobs for a total workforce of 275 staff.
Before deciding to build the new system, the company was able to negotiate a whole packet of investment incentives at state and local level. “South Carolina is a great place for European firms to invest. We owe a debt of gratitude to Governor Nikki Haley, the government of Barnwell County, and our many other partners there. Their patience, perseverance and untiring support have been crucial to the success of our venture in South Carolina,” says von Tippelskirch.
