Ambitious Goals: Illinois to encourage more renewables in the future

(PresseBox) (Bonn, Germany / Chicago, Illinois, )
Joint Forces for Solar is once again to host the "12th PV Briefing & Networking Forum USA" in Chicago. Although Illinois has so far been unable to establish a significant PV market, politicians are now hoping to produce around 25% of the state's electricity from renewables by 2025. On 24th October, the experts plan to discuss the potentials of the Great Lakes region.

This 12th event will close the Networking Initiative Joint Forces for Solar's series of events in the USA for this year. For the "12th PV Briefing & Networking Forum USA", the initiators from EuPD Research and Intersolar will be visiting the "windy city" of Chicago for the first time. The aim of the event is to discuss the developments and chances of the local market with regional and national players, and examine the potentials of the Great Lakes region with market participants, experts and installers.

The event will be held as a "Breakfast Briefing" on 24th October at 7:30 in The Congress Plaza Hotel in Chicago.

Allan O'Shea, Vice President of the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association will be explaining the regional situation and potentials not only of the State of Illinois, but of the entire Great Lakes region. Afterward, Brendon Merkley, Chief Operating Officer of Vivint Solar will be discussing national and international market developments from the installer's perspective. Following this, the "Industry Round Table" panel discussion with the most influential branch representatives will give participants the opportunity to discuss ways in which photovoltaics could be encouraged in the region and its importance increased, using examples from other national markets.

New financial models and marketing strategies will also be up for discussion, as well as the important question as to the political support of renewable energies. Since with a total volume of just 50 MWp, the Illinois PV market is currently of little significance, those in power are still setting ambitious goals. 25% of electricity should derive from renewable sources by 2025. The market currently consists of around 60% large scale systems, and should be increased by a further 100 MWp within the next three years. In order to achieve these high aims by 2025, the state of Illinois will be implementing appropriate subsidization programs.
