Jenoptik delivers gensets for over 120 passenger trains

The Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems division will equip Turkish passenger trains with on-board gensets on behalf of Hyundai Rotem

(PresseBox) (Jena/Wedel, )
The order from the South Korean railway vehicles manufacturer has a volume in the high single-digit million euro range. As part of this order, Jenoptik will manufacture a total of 124 gensets at the Altenstadt location between 2015 and 2017. These gensets will be used to provide on-board power supply for passenger trains and are intended for use by the Turkish state railway. This is already the third series order of this kind for Turkey by Hyundai Rotem.

The on-board gensets each have a power of 80 kVA. They are used to provide adequate energy for the on-board power supply in passenger trains, such as for heating, air-conditioning and lighting.

In the energy systems segment, the Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems division is one of Germany's main providers of subsystems and components for both military as well as civil applications. Jenoptik has been successfully operating in the field of power supply for trains for several years and supplies gensets and power units with different power ranges for retrofitting projects as well as for new trains.

"This order is another important step for us towards taking advantage of growth opportunities in the future market of railway technology at an international level. It also recognizes Jenoptik's reliability and the innovative potential of our products. Our modern system solutions meet the rising demand for environmentally friendly energy systems for railway vehicles and with that the global megatrends towards increased mobility and efficiency", reports Jenoptik President & CEO Michael Mertin.
