IHSE announces integration of Fraunhofer IIS's lightweight coding technology into next-generation KVM extenders

(PresseBox) (Oberteuringen, Germany/Las Vegas, USA, )
IHSE, a leading developer and manufacturer of advanced KVM devices, announces the integration of Fraunhofer IIS's lightweight coding technology LICI into their next-generation KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) extenders. LICI enables video transmission over data lines with limited bandwidth without dropping frames or sacrificing quality. This new technology will be demonstrated during the NAB Show at IHSE booth #SL12716.

Draco High Performance KVM Extender IHSE presents the Fraunhofer-Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS lightweight coding technology LICI in a first ever KVM implementation. The LICI codec enables the transmission of high-definition and ultra-high-definition video streams within the available infrastructure and bandwidth capacity without sacrificing either video resolution or dynamic range. Even when images are transmitted from a server to remote user stations using standard connections such as Gigabit Ethernet, optimum throughput is guaranteed without the typical network problems of reduced image quality and performance.

Another great feature of the LICI technology is the ability to perform bit-rate adjustment to the available bandwidth at very low latency. The Fraunhofer LICI codec is embedded in IHSE's next generation KVM extender technology supporting DisplayPort signals up to 4K resolution and beyond.

"Professional KVM technology for multiple monitor management is always driven by the demands of visually lossless image data transfer over existing infrastructure cabling or limited bandwidth without latency." states Enno Littmann, Managing Director of IHSE GmbH. "We chose Fraunhofer IIS as our development partner for image coding to enable us the ability to offer new products that meet these market requirements."

»The integration of our coding technology in the KVM extender of IHSE GmbH is a very important implementation that illustrates perfectly the potential of the LICI codec inside a professional broadcast and post-production environment,« says Wolfgang Heppner, manager of the group »hardware and devices« at Fraunhofer IIS.

The technology integration will be shown at the IHSE booth #SL12716, South Lower Hall, and at the Fraunhofer IIS booth #C8931, Center Hall.

About Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is the leading organization for applied research in Europe. Its research activities are conducted by 66 institutes and research units at locations throughout Germany. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft employs a staff of nearly 24,000, who work with an annual research budget totaling more than 2 billion euros.

Founded in 1985, Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Erlangen, Germany, ranks first among the Fraunhofer Institutes concerning headcount and revenues. As the main inventor of mp3 and universally credited with the co-development of AAC audio coding standard, Fraunhofer IIS has reached worldwide recognition. In close cooperation with partners and clients the Institute provides research and development services in the following areas: Audio & Multimedia, Communications Systems, Energy Management, IC Design and Design Automation, Imaging System, Medical Technology, Non-destructive Testing, Positioning, Safety and Security Technology, Sensor Systems plus Supply Chain Management.

More than 830 employees conduct contract research for industry, the service sector and public authorities. Fraunhofer IIS with its headquarters in Erlangen, Germany, has further branches in Dresden, Fuerth, Nuremberg, Coburg, Deggendorf, Ilmenau, Wuerzburg, Bamberg and Waischenfeld. The budget of 108 million euros is mainly financed by projects. Less than 25 percent of the budget is subsidized by federal and state funds.
