The recently opened Neurosciences Center at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, provides care in one of the most advanced inpatient units for the treatment of childhood epilepsy and other neurodegenerative diseases.
As a key component of the new facility, CHW partnered with BlackRock Neuromed to integrate a solution based on IHSE’s high definition KVM Switching System, that enables CHW’s team of doctors, nurses and technicians immediate access to critical monitoring data by simple and non-intimidating keyboard hot key selections.
Based on an 80-port Draco tera compact KVM matrix switch, the system was designed to allow 24/7 monitoring of patient rooms from a central control room and individual patient monitoring from nurse stations using high definition cameras and audio communications. It also supports portable monitoring systems that can be quickly setup and controlled remotely from the central control room.
The primary challenge was to design a fully integrated high definition video monitoring system that was sophisticated enough to provide doctors and nurses with the tools needed to provide the best patient care possible whilst ensuring that the technology complied with HIPAA and did not interfere or distract them from their primary goals.
"The IHSE system installed by Blackrock Neuromed solved our system requirements perfectly" said Dan Collins, Clinical Engineer for CHW. "The solution reduces the amount of equipment needed in the control and patient rooms. It allows the hospital staff to share the workload when they are at their busiest, thus allowing the level of care the patient deserves."
