Die Deutsche Telekom AG betreibt seit 1994 ein Trust Center, das 1998 als erstes Trust Center bundesweit die Genehmigung zur Ausgabe von Zertifikaten für die digitale Signatur gemäß dem Deutschen Signaturgesetz (SigG) erhielt. Neben der Ausstellung von Zertifikaten im qualifizierten Bereich entwickelt, baut und betreibt T-Systems auch komplexe Public Key Infrastrukturen im fortgeschrittenen Bereich.
Die T-Systems International GmbH betreibt seit 2001 das akkreditierte Trust Center in einem Hochsicherheitsrechenzentrum.
In diesem Umfeld wird das Trust Center der T-Systems mit der Stellung der Root CA künftig auch Leistungen für das Smart Metering Verfahren anbieten. Bei der Smart Meter Root Certification Authority (SM Root-CA) handelt es sich um eine sichere und zuverlässige Wurzelzertifizierungsinstanz zur Ausstellung und Verwaltung von Zertifikaten im Kontext intelligenter Messsysteme der Energiewirtschaft. Die SM Root-CA umfasst die Fachaufgaben der Identifizierung, Registrierung, Zertifikatsgenerierung, Zertifikatssperrung und Zertifikatsverzeichnisdienst von Sub-CA-Zertifikaten für die Public Key Infrastrukturen (PKI) von Unternehmen der Energiewirtschaft.
Zu diesem Zweck hat die greeneagle certification GmbH neben dem Zertifizierungsaudit nach ISO 27001 auch das hierfür erforderliche Audit nach BSI TR-03145 durchgeführt. Beide Audits wurden erfolgreich abgeschlossen.
Das Zertifikat für die Smart Meter Root Certification Authority der T-Systems International GmbH (SM Root-CA) wurde durch das BSI am 8.4.2016 erteilt.
