On 8 December 2008, the chairman of Gorey Courtown Forest Park Ltd. Mr Pat O'Donnel was awarded a prize for the best solution of the biomass heating equipment in Ireland for the year 2008.
In the competition "Best Renewable Energy Project at the Sustainable Energy Ireland Awards 2008", the equipment of the Gilles contracting partner Green-Energy Partnership gained victory over a number of competitors from all the Ireland. The prize was handed over by the jury of the national Irish Energy Agency SEI that emphasized in its reasoning the importance of this initial project example of integrating renewable energies and their efficiency within the conception of the above mentioned leisure centre attendance.
Gorey Courtown Forest Park AG is the non-profit organisation established by the local entrepreneurs in 1993. After building up holiday apartments and the leisure time centre near the sea spa in Courtown port, it was decided to create there also the national centre for sustainable energy. So the conception of the leisure centre attendance was supplemented by usage of a biomass heating boiler and a wind-power plant. In addition, a completely new system for buildings control was installed in order to ensure the permanent surveillance of the equipment. The Gilles HPKI-K 550 wood chips boiler was delivered within the scope of SEI (Sustainable Energy Ireland) reHeat program of the national supporting centre.The heating equipment is designed as a exhibition system, showing the efficient usage of the renewable energy for the heating purposes. One display was installed even on the reception desk of the leisure facilities. The heating building was equipped with a view platform, where the visitors may see, observe and photograph the complete heating system (boiler room with biomass boiler and fuil store with push rod system).
In addition to it, together with the established wind-power plant, a significant part of the current consumption in the Park is produced. Really very convincing idea, worth to be followed.
