Located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam serves professions such as printing, desktop publishing, sign making, media design, media and editorial management, media technology as well as audio visual and staging technology. According to print media docent Onno den Toom, the school added cross-media marketing to the curriculum in response to market demand. Research showed that offering skills such as cross-media and big-data management is a critical need in today's marketplace. "Offering cross media and harvesting big data, which includes managing databases for customers as a service, is a way to keep your business profitable," he said.
"We looked at other solutions, but in the end we choose DirectSmile for ease of use, strong product integration and the ability to work from a single, platform-independent browser. We had previous experience with DirectSmile VDP studio and the EFI Fiery Digital Front End and command workstation, so we knew that we'd be dealing with a sturdy and robust product," he added.
Using DirectSmile software the Grafisch Lyceum faculty will teach its Desktop Publishing and Print Shop students how to realise campaigns from a technical perspective. They will also teach:
- Campaign design to Media Design and Media management students
- Scripting for Media technology students
- Data harvesting for the Media Management students
- Database management for the Media technology students
In addition, the school also plans to use the product itself for campaigns involving student recruitment.
"We have not developed any campaigns with DirectSmile cross media just yet. However, I can't wait," said den Toom.
