The new You-R® VIRTUAL TUNNEL by RF-iT Solutions

A system innovation of the Graz-based RFID solution provider enhances precision of RFID technology on conveyors.

RF-iT Solutions, a company based in Graz, Austria, now offers its customers a newly developed add-on to its proven You-R® OPEN middleware: the patented You-R® VIRTUAL TUNNEL enables accurate identification of individual components and their precise allocation to the packing units on a conveyor belt, without having to separate articles from previous or following packing units on the conveyor. In tests conducted in the course of several projects in the fashion segment, for instance with German shirt manufacturer Seidensticker or in military logistics, up to 50 components were clearly allocated to their packing units at a conveyor speed of one meter per second.
In addition, the You-R® VIRTUAL TUNNEL is able to distinguish between RFID tags which are transported on the conveyor belt and those which are stored in the immediate proximity of the conveyor. Thanks to this functionality, an accurate operation of the system can also be fully guaranteed in confined spatial conditions, as they are often customary in practice. Dominik Berger, Managing Director of RF-iT Solutions GmbH, considers this an essential customer benefit: “By filtering out transponders located beside, but not directly on the conveyor, and by selective reads on the conveyor, we offer our customers a reliable solution to the phenomenon of false positive reads, a problem known throughout the industry.”

Flexible and quick implementation
The You-R® VIRTUAL TUNNEL is a simple mechanical construction, which only requires a minimum number of hardware components for operation. Shielding efforts are no longer necessary. The entire solution is realized using standard components and the corresponding software logic based on You-R® OPEN. Hardware and software components are optimally coordinated and therefore only require a short implementation phase. Thanks to You-R® OPEN the system can be integrated in existing customer software packages flexibly and efficiently.
The fine-tuning is carried out by RF-iT Solutions consultants in close cooperation with customers. Depending on the requirements and spatial conditions on site, the solution may be provided with a single antenna or several antennas. The flexibility in positioning the antennas ensures 100% reading accuracy in typical cases of application.
