DAVID Systems offers RF64 Generator for free

Sophisticated tool allows to create RF64 files with more than 4 GB for testing

(PresseBox) (München, )
RF64 is a file format specification developed by DAVID Systems in close cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union EBU. The purpose of RF64 is to have a file format specification that allows to storage multichannel audio data in a single audio file. The RF64 file format should fulfill the longer-term need for multichannel sound in broadcasting and archiving.

An RF64 file has additions to the basic Microsoft RIFF/WAVE specification to allow for either, or both: more than 4 Gbyte file sizes when needed and a maximum of 18 surround channels, stereo downmix channel and bitstream signals with non-PCM coded data. This specification is based on the Microsoft Wave Format Extensible for multichannel parameters.

As one of the features of the RF64 format specification is to overcome the 4GB barrier, reference files are needed which are larger than 4GB. Because downloading such sizable files at current internet download data rates is impractical, a tool that can generate those files is needed.

RF64 Generator is a utility that allows developers and system suppliers to easily create RF64 reference files. It creates reference files in all standard sample rates (44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz) and resolutions (16 and 24 bit) by compiling sampled audio portions stored within the application. The files contain an audio signal with lectured speaker positions and a growing number for positioning purposes.

DAVID Systems wants to assist the broadcasting community in spreading the usage of RF64 and therefore offers the use of RF64 Generator free of charge. To download the application visit www.davidsystems.com.
