- Energy efficiency project at arvato Systems impresses the jury
- Building alterations to the data center save over two million kWh
This year’s German Data Center Prize evening gala was once again an exciting event. The jury of experts selected 30 finalists from all of the projects submitted and invited them to a gala event in Palais Frankfurt.
A golden envelope containing the winner’s name was brought on stage for each category. When it came to the category 9, ‘Modifications to an Existing Data Center to Increase Energy Efficiency’, the arvato team held their breath and listened intently: “And the winner is ... arvato Systems!” It goes without saying that the team was delighted and Jesko Jacobs accepted the prestigious award on behalf of arvato Systems.
The project submitted by arvato Systems described the energy-efficiency modifications and measures applied to the data center covering an area of 5,000 m2. What makes this project so special is that the extensive modifications to the temperature and cooling systems were made during ongoing operations without any downtimes. A modern data center infrastructure management system was also rolled out. The objective of the project was to save one million kWh per year. The result was actually more than two million kWh in savings at the end of the year – a great success that ultimately won the jury over.
When it came time to award the Audience Prize, arvato Systems got a nice surprise: The company came second out of 60 participants. This shows that the project impressed both the jury of experts and readers who voted online.
