Die neue Leichtbaumaterialkombination für den Einsatz im Motorraum wurde Ende 2012 erstmalig vorgestellt und eröffnet neue Wege im Sinne energie- und gewichtseffizienter Fahrzeuge. Sie wird aus zwei Hochleistungswerkstoffen - Stanyl® Polyamid 46 von DSM und Fluorelastomeren von Dyneon, einer Tochtergesellschaft des Multi-Technologiekonzerns 3M, in einem wirtschaftlichen 2-Komponenten Spritzgussverfahren gefertigt und vulkanisiert.
Neben dem deutlich geringeren Gewicht gegenüber herkömmlich eingesetzten Metallbauteilen erschließen sich durch das zweistufige Herstellverfahren weitere wirtschaftliche und ökologische Vorteile. Die Zykluszeit des Verfahrens beträgt je nach Bauteil nur zwei bis drei Minuten. Einschließlich der Vulkanisierung und Temperung sind die Teile nach zwei Stunden zum Einbau bereit. Zudem entfallen Hilfsstoffe sowie die Kosten für Einkauf und Entsorgung. Beide Komponenten zeichnen sich durch hervorragende mechanische Stabilität und Beständigkeit aus, auch bei dauerhaft hohen Temperaturen und unter chemischen Einflüssen durch aggressive Medien wie z.B. Öl und Benzin.
Die neue Materialkombination eignet sich daher besonders für Bauteile wie Kurbelwellengehäuse und weitere dynamische und statische Dichtungen. Sie vergrößert darüber hinaus den Freiheitsgrad für neue Konstruktionen sowie Montagetechniken und ermöglicht die Integration von Funktionen.
