SGS Provides Comprehensive Inspection Services for Wagon Facility and Ship Loading Terminal in Brazil
On July 28, 2010, SGS Brazil was assigned a twoyear contract to provide inspection services for the construction of a wagon facility and a ship loading terminal by a leading Brazilian mining and logistics company in São Luiz, Brazil.
In order to assure quality and compliance with all international and local standards and regulations, such as ABNT/NBR, issued by the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards, the Brazilian mining and logistics company looked for a reliable thirdparty company to conduct inspection and testing services.
As a result of previous successful experience with SGS on similar projects, the Brazilian company awarded SGS Brazil the contract to provide inspection services for equipment and structures during the construction of the wagon facility and ship loading terminal in São Luiz, Brazil.
During the twoyear contract, SGS will provide a wide range of inspection services, including Quality Assurance and Quality Control, Manufacturing Inspection and Technical Inspection, Expediting and Non-Destructive Testing services.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control as well as Manufacturing Inspection and Technical Inspection provided by SGS will ensure that the project satisfies customer requirements in a systematic and reliable way and is in compliance with all contractual specifications, codes and standards in Brazil. The team of 11 SGS experts will verify materials and equipment through checks and inspections in accordance with quality assurance procedures and a checklist relating to specific types of equipment, operational factors and the vendor's quality control system.
Furthermore, SGS will perform Expediting Services to identify the areas which cause potential delays and undertake the necessary actions to ensure that materials and equipment are delivered to the location on or before the promised date defined in the delivery terms.
As the world's leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, SGS will inspect the structures of the wagon facility and ship loading terminal during the assembly by applying Non-Destructive Testing methods, including Dye Penetrant Examination, Magnetic Particle Testing and Ultrasonic Testing. With its extensive experience and competence in the field of NDT, SGS will check the welding for any discontinuities and failures in the material in order to assure the quality throughout the whole construction process.
The fact that SGS was chosen to provide inspection services for this largescale project from a large number of competitors, shows once again that SGS is widely recognized as the top player in the field of inspection, verification, testing and certification.
