REpower and DOTI sign supply contract for six REpower 5M for alpha ventus
Installation of wind turbines for first German offshore wind farm planned for Summer 2009 / Senators for Economics Gedaschko and Nagel visited new REpower production hall in Bremerhaven
"We are pleased that the contract with REpower is now secured", said the Project Manager of alpha ventus, Wilfried Hube. "I am confident that this pioneering project initiated by EWE, E.ON and Vattenfall will, as planned, succeed in 2009. REpower will bring to the partnership its extensive offshore experience of wind turbines of this size", reported Hube.
"We are delighted that, with the signing of this contract, the building and installation of our turbines has now officially begun", explained Norbert Giese, Director of the Offshore Business Division at REpower Systems AG. "Of course, we are proud that half of the first offshore wind farm in Germany will be made up of REpower turbines."
The six turbines are to be manufactured in the new offshore assembly plant of REpower Systems AG in Bremerhaven, the delivery is expected for summer 2009. Today, Mr. Ralf Nagel, Senator for Economics and Ports of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and Mr. Axel Gedaschko, Senator for Economic Affairs of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, visited the new REpower production site at Lunehafen. On place, they followed some specifications on turbine assembling by Dr. Klaus F. Köncke, Director Global Manufacturing at REpower Systems AG.
The REpower 5M was developed especially for offshore operation. REpower has now successfully installed 17 turbines of this type, both onshore and offshore, including two turbines in the Scottish North Sea at a water depth of 44 metres, and six 5M at the first Belgian offshore wind farm, Thornton Bank.
