Web-based Monitoring of PROFIBUS Networks

A clever diagnosis concept: Ensuring maximum plant availability with minimum effort and expense

(PresseBox) (Karlsruhe, ) The new Trebing & Himstedt xEPI 2 for the first time enables continuous, parallel monitoring of a high number of PROFIBUS strands during operation. In combination with an optional web browser, the intelligent diagnosis unit automatically identifies any malfunctions or anomalies, including physical problems. The clever thing and main highlight about this is - no additional software and no configuration besides setting the Ethernet address for each unit are required. The xEPI 2 units automatically link together, create a network and exchange diagnosis information. As a result, users are always able to monitor all PROFIBUS networks of the entire plant. An alert function allows quick and targeted action in case of failures. In addition, the concept enables implementation of various service models. Within the scope of modern remote maintenance scenarios, for example, system providers and local service partners will be able to access crucial diagnosis information at the same time for successful troubleshooting.

As a silent listener, the xEPI 2 PROFIBUS diagnosis unit monitors the data flow on the PROFIBUS, filtering and processing relevant diagnosis information. Detailed information for each network down to module level are displayed per drill-in, showing network and/or device failures as well as diagnosis messages in plaintext. In addition, all key quality parameters of the network status are recorded and evaluated. In a graphical bus and failure statistic, for example, critical network stations can be identified at a single glance based on failures and repeat telegrams. Furthermore, active infrastructure components such as diagnostic repeaters or DP/PA links are supported, which enables targeted evaluation of physical network parameters. An automatic email alert can notify users in case of failures and links directly onto detailed information and specific recommendations to take action for troubleshooting.

The new xEPI 2 has already proved its practical use in comprehensive field test applications in various fields or industry. Customers especially appreciate its intuitive operation, good overview and quick reactivity in case of failures.

The xEPI 2 Diagnostic Unit and Configuration Interface can also be used as an access point for further applications in the field of PROFIBUS diagnosis (PROFIBUS Scope, TH OPC Server DP) and for device configuration (FDT, EDD).
