With its latest innovative development, paragon AG again underlines its potential in the field of automotive electronics. A new type of start/stop sensor ensures reliable detection of the gear position in stop/start systems and has financial and technical advantages over conventional hall sensors. paragon will be presenting this joint development for the first time, together with its partner the Rollax ball bearing plant, at the "Sensor + Test" trade fair from 18 to 20 May 2010 in Nuremberg, Germany.
paragon (sensors/electronics) and Rollax (mechanics/application) pooled their core skills for the development of this innovative product. Considering the demand in the market for fuel savings realised using start/stop systems and simple hybrid systems in conjunction with manual transmissions, this contactless sensor represents a secure system with longterm stability. Unambiguous detection of the gear position is a key element of start/stop systems. "With this new product we have underlined our development skills with regard to innovative electronics solutions in cars," states Klaus Dieter Frers, Chairman of the Management Board at paragon AG.
The mechanical installation effort required for the integration of a magnet into traditional hall sensors will thus no longer be necessary for vehicle and gear manufacturers. With the combination of patented ballmounted locking bushes or screws from Rollax and inductive distance measurement from paragon, it is possible to display the exact position of the gear shifting gate and the sensor temperature.
In addition, the sensor signals in the control unit can be used for attractive additional functions, such as outputting control signals for a rear view camera or an audible reversing signal. Conventional mechanical reversing light switches can thereby be dispensed with. A number of functions can thus be realized in a single component. The inductive sensor technology is freely adjustable and programmable and is compatible with a wide range of interfaces (e.g. LIN, PWM, SENT). A further advantage is that the start/stop sensor is easy to install and retrofit.
