Lloyd's Register Group's Dr Anne-Marie Warris named chair of leading global environmental committee
ISO/TC 207 is the 'umbrella committee' under which the ISO 14000 series of environmental management standards are being developed. ISO/TC 207/SC1 is specifically responsible for producing standards and guidance documents related to environmental management systems. ISO/TC 207 was created on the recommendation of the ISO Strategic Advisory Group on the Environment (SAGE). SAGE's recommendation in 1992 was that the development of environmental management systems should not take place within the framework of the ISO Quality Technical Committee (ISO/TC 176), but rather that environmental concerns "were not subordinate to quality concerns, but were of separate and equal importance."
Dr Warris has been involved in ISO/TC 207 activities since November 2000, as UK principle delegate to ISO/TC 207/SC1. Her work within ISO/TC 207 also extends to being principle UK delegate to the sub committee 7 (related to green house gas management and related activities) that developed ISO14064:3, ISO14065 as well as being involved the ongoing work on ISO14066.
Dr Warris' experience of committee work includes her role as Vice Chair of the UK Emission Trading Group (ETG). At international level she has been a board member of International Emission Trading Association (IETA) from 2000 to 2004 and she currently chairs the monitoring, reporting and verification forum in IETA. She is also involved in the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) as Secretary to the committee which has developed the accreditation guidance for ISO14065 and the European Union Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS).
Kevin Boehmer, Secretary of ISO/TC 207, Environmental Management, said, "On behalf of the ISO/TC 207 Chair, Dr Bob Page, we welcome Dr Warris' appointment to this important position. Anne-Marie is a respected and proven leader with enormous environmental management systems experience. I am sure Dr Warris will successfully lead ISO/TC 207 Subcommittee 1 in reaffirming the relevance and increasing use of ISO 14001 in the years ahead."
Dr Warris joined the Lloyd's Register Group in 1989 to manage their environmental consultancy business. In 1996 she moved to Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Ltd (LRQA) in the Group. During her time as the Global GHG Technical Manager for the LRQA Green house Gas Unit, Dr Warris authored the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) 2007 which was based substantially on ISO14064:2 and ISO14065. She is currently supporting various operations across the Lloyd's Register Group including the Lloyd's Register Marine Business Stream in the area of climate change.
