Imtech: 30 million euro order for sustainable technology in Royal Netherlands Army headquarters

(PresseBox) (Gouda, ) Imtech (technical services provider in Europe) announces that it has been awarded (in combination) the assignment for all the sustainable technical solutions for the new headquarters of the Royal Netherlands Army that is due to be built. The assignment represents a value of nearly 30 million euro for Imtech.

The new headquarters of the Royal Netherlands Army will be housed on the existing grounds of the Kromhout Barracks in Utrecht. The project results from the decision of the Dutch Ministry of Defence to centralise the staff of the Land Forces Command at these grounds. At the same time various other Defence units will be housed here, including the Services Centre Command and the Defence Equipment Command. Around 3,000 defence staff will be employed here.

112,000m² sustainable floor area

The commissioning party is the consortium 'Komfort', a PPP consortium (Public-Private Partnership) made up of Ballast Nedam, Strukton and John Laing. In a separate commercial partnership (ICK, 'Installatie Combinatie Komfort') Imtech (lead manager) and TBI Techniek have total responsibility for the realisation of all the sustainable electrical and mechanical technology solutions, including all the related and integrated technical systems. The assignment represents for ICK a total value of nearly 60 million euro. The new headquarters consists of 112,000m² sustainable floor area spread over five office buildings (with a total gross floor area of around 78,000m²), plus diverse buildings (14,000m²) for sports, health and meeting facilities, as well as the encampment of approximately 150 staff and a car park for around 1,000 cars and 50 motorcycles. The maximum permitted building height is 17 metres on the area of, in total, 19 hectares and with its many natural areas this combines to form an attractive green landscape environment. The urban architectural concept and landscape design come from Karres and Brands Landscape Architects, while Meyer and Van Schooten Architects are responsible for the design of the buildings and the interiors.

High-tech and sustainable

Imtech and TBI Techniek's technical solutions provide high-tech security and countless sustainable choices, including advanced optimisation of heating technology, storage of warmth and cold for the benefit of heating and cooling respectively, sustainable air and climate technology and sustainable 'green' roofs as well as an environmentally friendly sewer system.

Completion end 2011

On 20 March last Jack de Vries, secretary of state for Defence, laid the first stone for the building of the new headquarters. The building for the initial 2,000 workplaces is expected to be completed around the end of 2010 and the total project is due to be completed around the end of 2011.
