Deutsche Post World Net receives German Corporate Health Award
Group impresses with its corporate health management programme
"I am very proud that Deutsche Post World Net has received this award. The Group thrives because of its efficient and motivated employees. They make an enormous contribution to the success of our company. This is why Group-wide health management to help maintain health and productivity is also a key component of our company ethos," said Walter Scheurle on the occasion of the awards ceremony. Promoting the health of employees is firmly integrated in the Group's code of conduct and forms part of the corporate health policy, the guidelines underpinning the work of Health Management.
The aim of Deutsche Post Health Management is to improve the health and wellbeing of employees in the workplace. The 'health' working groups set up across Germany alone implement some 5,000 health promotion measures each year with the active involvement of employees. Issues covered include ergonomics, exercise and nutrition as well as stress management.
As part of the commitment to social responsibility, preventive measures such as breast and bowel cancer check-ups or medical screenings for cardiovascular disorders and back pain have been initiated. Throughout the world employees have been supported by measures to encourage them to lead a healthier lifestyle and adopt working practices that promote health. This includes taking precautions when dealing with infectious diseases, such as HIV/AIDS. Through effective health management it has also been possible to reduce illness absence over a sustained period of time. These results and the measures taken were also enough to convince the Move Europe panel.
The Group's Health Management in Germany alone enjoys the support of fifty company doctors as well as more than 200 safety specialists and social counsellors. The German business media have already rated the company's health management programme the best amongst companies operating in Germany in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
